Launch Day – Day 0

We are taking Off

Calm in a cup

We, my wife and daughter who is 17 and on verge of her senior year of high school are ready to explore Europe by train. This is a departure from our past vacations abroad and the plan really only came together a few weeks ago. So we have a beginning and an end, train tickets to destination in between and the rest we hope to figure out on the road. Luck happens to those who are prepared and I think we are prepared for a little luck. If we keep our expectations low, then we usually are pleasantly surprised at the outcome. Attitude is everything, right? After all, we will be together, traveling as a family and not to get to reflected yet but we don’t how many more trips like this we will get. But for now, I will be in my happy place, with the girls, taking in life as it should be, together.

We are a little nervous and a lot excited. The house is still quiet sitting here sipping coffee. Clothes are scattered across the floor trying to figure out what stays and what goes. Is it going to be hot or cold? Will it rain, or will the weather be perfect. One more check at the forecast. One more check for the passports. Grab the chargers and an extra pair of socks. We are off to Europe in a few short hours. Tons planned, with space between to figure things out.

    Amsterdam Day 1

Van Goph Museum Tour We started our day with a nice breakfast at the Hotel Alexander, situated in the Museumsplein district, it is tree lined, picturesque and still a jump away from the center of the city. All around the hotel area are historic buildings, as is much of Amsterdam. Notably, the 7 sisters buildings,…

    London

London Day 1 In the Streets of London Landed in Heathrow. 10 hour flight and a nice upgrade, the flight had plenty of leg room and a vegan meal, which made the red eye manageable. Noise canceling headphones on and I am out.  Touch down. Customs was a breeze thanks to the somewhat new UK…

    Soof in Amsterdam

Hotel Alexander and Soof The hotel Alexander has been a wonderful place to stay. The staff is welcoming, the accommodations are European standard (small) but the beds are comfy. There is a coffee machine in the lobby ready at all hours. Heaven for me. The hotel prepared a beautiful breakfast spread each morning and it…
