Eurostar to Belgium

I woke up early to sound of rain falling through the trees in the garden outside. It’s a soothing sound and then I realized we have to walk to the train station with all our luggage! Did I pack an umbrella? Can I cover the suitcases with trash bags? Should just call an Uber? Panic! No. It’s just rain.
I dressed and took a stroll around the block in the drizzle to find some coffee. I love the quiet streets and notice the puddles aren’t that big so it didn’t rain that hard. My search for coffee lands me at a Starbucks a few blocks away in front of the British Museum. I remember our last visit to London, we had to run through it, but it was a must do to see the vast collection of Egyptians artifacts and the Rosetta Stone.
With the storm cleared up now, I return with some breakfast. We pack up, and freshen up and make the short trek to St. Pancreas train station to catch the Eurostar to Belgium. It’s a 2 1/2 hour ride under the channel, then passing rolling hills and farmlands of France and into Belgium. White and grey clouds threaten the rain but it doesn’t come. The plan on paper is to stop in Brussels which has some beautiful architecture to see, store the luggage in lockers and explore the city for a few hours. In reality, those grey and white clouds, while not dumping rain are blowing strong cold winds through the city. We took one look out the large glass windows at the station and decided that nobody is making us go out there in this weather. It’s our vacation after all. Laughing at the idea and reminding ourselves that we can do what we want. Seems silly but just because we have a plan it doesn’t mean we have to follow it. So back on the train, another 8€ and a short hop to Ghent where we will spend the next 2 days.
